How to Connect a Shipping Provider

The first and most important step in using PickupBird by Digiloop is setting up the shipping providers you work with. Every shipping provider is configured through the same setup process, which consists of the following steps: Connection, General Settings, Sender Details, Pickup Points, Rules (optional), and Order attributes (optional).

This guide walks you through the process once, in detail, using GLS as an example. GLS, DPD, SAMEDAY, FAN COURIER, PACKETA, INPOST, BRING, BPOST, CORREOS, POSTNORD, MPL (Magyar Posta), OMNIVA, SLOVENSKÁ POŠTA, FOXPOST, TOURMIX, and Express One all use the same process — the credentials requested may differ slightly by provider; guidance on this is provided below in the Provider Credential Reference Table.

Step 1 — Open the Shipping Providers Menu and Choose a Provider

  1. In the Shopify admin, open the PickupBird by Digiloop app and go to the Shipping Providers menu.

  2. Use the country selector at the top to choose the country you are shipping from.

  3. From the list, click the card of the shipping provider you have a contract with.

Step 2 — The Connection Tab

Here you can enter the credentials you received from the shipping provider.

  1. After selecting a provider, its settings page opens, with the Connection tab selected by default.

  2. This is where you enter the credentials you received from the shipping provider. For GLS, these are the Username, Password, and Client ID — below each field to fill in you'll find help text that assists you in identifying the required data. Different providers require different credentials. For detailed information on this, see the Provider Credential Reference Table.

  3. In the Advanced section, you can set the Test / Live data connection toggle:

    • On — you have live credentials and want to send real orders.

    • Off — you are still testing the connection with a test API key.

  4. Only enable the Fulfillment service toggle if you use a third-party fulfillment service, and you only want to integrate pickup points or parcel lockers into your Cart or Checkout.

  5. Finally, activate the connection by clicking the Activate button in the top-right corner.

Step 3 — The General Settings Tab

In this step, you can configure how the PickupBird by Digiloop app behaves for this shipping provider.

  1. Switch to the General settings tab.

  2. In the Generate shipping labels section, you can choose how shipping labels are created:

    • Manual — you control label creation by clicking the "Create shipping label" button. This is the most reliable method, because the shipping confirmation email is only sent once the label has been created.

    • Automatically when an order is created or Automatically when an order is paid — PickupBird automatically creates the label when the corresponding event occurs.

  3. You can specify the type/size of shipping label you want to generate with a single click.

  4. Turn on the Print shipping labels in bulk in PDF option if you want all labels to be combined into a single PDF when printing in bulk, instead of a ZIP file containing separate PDFs.

Step 4 — The Sender Details Tab

In this step, you provide your details and the shipping address the courier will pick up your parcels from — this information is also printed on the shipping label.

  1. Switch to the Sender details tab.

  2. Fill in the Company name, First/Last name, Email, and Phone fields — all of them are required.

  3. Fill in the Sender address fields: country, postal code, city, street name/type, house number, and floor/door, if applicable.

Step 5 — The Pickup Points Tab

In this step, you can enable the pickup point/parcel locker service(s) in the country where you want this shipping provider to appear in your store's integration (Cart and/or Checkout page).

Important: If you disable all services, the interactive map will not be visible on the Cart and Checkout pages.

Step 6 — The Rules Tab (Optional)

On the Rules tab, you can restrict which products a given shipping provider can deliver, based on a product TAG or the total cart weight. See Restricting Pickup Points by Product Tag and Restricting Pickup Points by Cart Weight if you need this.

Step 7 — The Order Attributes Tab (Optional)

PickupBird saves the selected pickup point's data in default order attributes. These attributes allow your own ERP or shipping system to process the orders as well.

If your ERP or shipping system requires a different format than the standard attributes, simply add a new attribute with a custom name and map it to the desired value. PickupBird by Digiloop will then automatically fill this in as well with the selected pickup point's data during the order process.
